I came to Japan in 2006, after 6+ years in Japan and 8 years of living Seoul Korea, I found myself picking up all the English magazines to see what everyone seeks for excitement & pleasure in these new found lands. I have seen many successful, informative publications for the expat communities, coming out every month with pages packed with interviews, events & reviews from all corners of the city.
Unfortunately, nearly fifteen years later, I have started to notice something — all these magazines talk about the same places, the same events/parties and you start to see all the same faces every month, I grown deeply saddened and disappointed. These magazines seem to be worn out and lack creative interest. I have even found myself complaining that its just another interview of a local foreigner trying to make it big here or a friend of a friend just wanting to get their face/name in the magazine, basically “there’s nothing in it worth reading”.
So I set forth to publish a magazine filled with more diverse topics and information, that’s how SPOT Report Magazine was born. My vision is that SPOT Report Magazine will include exclusive stories, insights, commentary and satirical articles that can help us all understand what great cities this awesome country has in which we work and live, by presenting the drama, challenges and delights that give real-life stories the spark that informs and inspires.
This first issue has been put together by myself and couple friends on a very tight budget and short deadline to get this out on the streets so everyone can get an idea of where we are headed. I would like to thank those who have supported me and helped us get this far. We are humbled by your support.
This preview issue is our first step on a new journey and more informative understanding of this wonderful country and we invite you to join us for an exciting and fresh start. How many times do we get this kind of opportunity?
