Starbucks Is Everywhere

Everywhere you look, there seems to be a Starbucks not too far away. So, everyone knows the famous Starbucks mermaid. But while most people look at Starbucks and think of over-priced sweet lattes, tasty sweets, the self-proclaimed Korean “paper cup artist” Soo Min Kim from Seoul sees so much you can do with the endless opportunities for humor in the green lady. Armed with a perfectly matched green marker, correction fluid, and some scissors, his quirky, hand-painted images give a whole new life to the Starbucks mermaid.

He adds to what’s already on the cup canvas, the coffee company’s mermaid logo, and in surprising detail transforms the recognizable beverage containers into popular characters, such as Thomas the Tank Engine, Darth Vader, Colonel Sanders, Lego mini-figures, anime characters, superheroes, and even smartly animated recreations of the iconic “Abbey Road” album cover from The Beatles.

Perhaps one of the most interesting point of the coffee cup designs is how he makes them look like they are seamlessly integrated into the existing logo, as if Starbucks actually redesigned their existing logo. Every little fine detail, from bold lines, color matching, and aesthetic tie together perfectly.

These cups are amazing, but he must drink an awful lot of coffee to have this many cups to work with. Make sure to check out Kim’s website for more coffee cup art. You can also find him on Facebook and YouTube.
