Tokyo, Japan — In celebration of the iconic monster’s 70th anniversary, “Godzilla: THE Art” exhibition will open at the Mori Arts Center Gallery from April 26 to June 29, 2025. This special showcase reimagines the legacy of Godzilla through the lens of contemporary art, posing the central question: “What is Godzilla?”

Since its cinematic debut in Toho’s 1954 classic Godzilla, the King of the Monsters has evolved into a global pop culture icon. Over seven decades, Godzilla has taken on multiple forms—symbolizing fear, power, and even hope—across numerous films and media. Now, for the first time, that evolution will be explored through a diverse range of modern artistic expressions.

The exhibition features newly commissioned works from a roster of acclaimed Japanese and international artists including Miran Fukuda, OJUN, Sachiko Kazama, Motohiko Odani, and Tadanobu Asano. Through paintings, sculptures, photography, and performance art, each artist presents a unique perspective on Godzilla, challenging viewers to reconsider its meaning and symbolism in today’s world.

In addition to original artworks, the exhibition includes exclusive dioramas created by Toho’s film art team and a special video installation curated for this event. The gallery space itself is designed to appear as if it has been ravaged by Godzilla’s destructive force, transforming the viewing experience into an immersive encounter with the creature’s mythos.

And if you’re hungry after confronting the King of the Monsters—Roppongi Hills, operated by Mori Building Co., Ltd., will be offering a limited-time culinary collaboration to celebrate the exhibition. From April 26 to June 29, 2025, participating restaurants in the complex will serve the “Godzilla vs. Roppongi Hills SPECIAL MENU”—a series of themed dishes inspired by the legendary kaiju. It’s a chance to indulge in Godzilla like never before—on your plate.
