On July 31, 2025, British-origin home beauty brand SmoothSkin held a media press conference at Shibuya Sakura Stage in Tokyo to introduce its newest IPL hair removal device, the Pure Switch, slated for release on August 8. The event also celebrated the appointment of popular model and TV personality Chihiro Kondo as the brand’s ambassador in Japan, marking a new chapter in the company’s local expansion.

During the hour-long media-exclusive session from 12:00 to 13:00, Kondo shared her excitement about the partnership and the innovative technology behind Pure Switch, which integrates cutting-edge sapphire cooling to reduce pain, redness, and irritation—even on sensitive areas such as the face and VIO zones. This versatile device offers three interchangeable attachments for full-body care, from broad areas like arms and legs to delicate facial and intimate zones, enabling personalized grooming at home.

Kondo, a busy mother of three, expressed how the device fits seamlessly into her hectic lifestyle: “SmoothSkin quickly became a companion I can’t imagine living without. I want everyone to try it and enjoy happier, more confident days.” She revealed that her self-care routine happens after her children are asleep, where she stretches on her yoga mat or does strength training to stay fit, especially during the summer when skin exposure increases. “That quiet time at night is my chance,” she added.

Reflecting on her ambassador role, Kondo emphasized her desire to empower other moms: “Being confident in your skin helps you shine, and I want my children to see that and say, ‘Mom, you look amazing!’ SmoothSkin feels like my trusted partner in that journey.” She also shared that she and her husband use the device together, praising its ease and low discomfort. “I’ve been to salons many times and experienced various treatments, but SmoothSkin’s quality is exceptional. It’s gentle enough for beginners and convenient enough to fit any schedule.”

The Pure Switch model boasts industry-first sapphire cooling technology to minimize discomfort during treatment. Its three modes—Ice Mode (cooling and gentle), Speed Mode (up to 176 flashes per minute for full-body care in just 7 minutes), and Precision Mode (for detailed areas)—cater to diverse user needs. A built-in skin tone sensor adjusts light intensity automatically for safe use, and a UV filter ensures eye safety without sunglasses.

Clinically tested by CyDen, the device shows up to 93% hair reduction within two weeks when used once weekly, providing a salon-grade experience from home. Weighing approximately 305 grams and available in “New Doe Pink,” Pure Switch will be sold via SmoothSkin’s official online shop, Rakuten, and Amazon.

This launch event underscores SmoothSkin’s commitment to making effective, safe, and convenient beauty technology accessible in Japan, with Chihiro Kondo leading the charge as a relatable ambassador who balances motherhood, work, and self-care.
