Go back in time when guys had pompadours, leather jackets, and their weapon of choice was a comb, Gilligan and the Skipper were “Lost”; and hamburger, fries, and a root beer float was the only food triangle you needed to have. The Soul Diner will take you back to that time and at the same time satisfy your belly.

The décor of Soul Diner has the 50’s nostalgic feel with a modern touch. In fact, I think I played a Facebook game that let you decorate a restaurant just like this one. You can choose to sit on one of the four booths available or the counter top, but space at the counter top is a bit tight. This diner is not overly decorated, but has a few items around it that make you feel like you are in America including some Dad’s old fashion root beer cans, a Buddy Lee figurine, a jar of jelly beans, and the old fashion red and yellow mustard and ketchup bottles (yeah I know, it’s the little things that remind me of home).

The selection of hamburgers here are great with 25 different hamburgers to choose from and all priced around \1,000. This is my third visit here and every hamburger I’ve had was excellent! They toast the sesame sprinkled buns so it’s warm and crispy.  The patty is cooked well done and is firm on the outside and soft and juicy in the inside. Did I mention that there are 25 hamburgers to choose from? I did? Well I need to mention it again…there are 25 hamburgers to choose from!  There’s the cheeseburger, the double cheeseburger, the bacon cheeseburger, the salsa cheeseburger, the avocado cheeseburger, the mushroom cheeseburger, the camembert cheeseburger…and those are just the cheeseburgers! My favorite burger so far is the mushroom cheeseburger. The mushroom sauce poured on the burger was warm and flavorful.  Be warned this is a messy burger to eat.  You’ll need one of those hamburger paper wraps and a date who doesn’t mind that your mouth, hands, and legs are covered in mushroom sauce. All the burgers come with crispy French fries and I love how you don’t have to skimp on the ketchup. Soul Diner also has other side dishes and a great beer selection.  They have beer from all over the world including what one of my friends said is a hard to find Spanish beer, Cruzcampo.

Soul Diner is just a minute walk from Ueda Station on the Tsurumai subway line. If you’re craving a good burger, a nostalgic atmosphere, or are just in the area cruise over to Soul Diner and satisfy your soul.
