On April 7, members of the press were invited to a special preview of Glass Rock, the final component in Mori Building’s long-term redevelopment vision for Toranomon Hills. Two days ahead of its public opening, the facility offered a first look at a thoughtfully curated mix of retail, culture, and civic innovation spaces that expand the role of the area from a business-centric hub into a multifaceted urban ecosystem.
Designed with clean, angular geometry and intersected by the pedestrian “T-Deck” skywalk, Glass Rock adds nearly 9,000 square meters to the district and completes a transformation that began with the opening of the Mori Tower in 2014. With this final addition, the Toranomon Hills project—comprising four skyscrapers and multiple mixed-use components—closes a chapter more than 15 years in the making.
At street level, three distinctive retailers opened their doors. TULLY’S COFFEE & TEA, launching its flagship specialty tea concept, revealed an expansive space filled with curated blends, seasonal fruit infusions, and literary-themed lattes, all exclusive to this location. Adjacent to it is BENOIT NIHANT, the second Tokyo boutique from the Belgian chocolatier known for applying engineering precision to cacao craftsmanship. Their handmade bonbons, shaped chocolates, and rich financiers are baked on-site and tailored for the Tokyo audience. Completing the trio is ROSE GALLERY, a high-end floral boutique centered on the aesthetic and symbolic language of roses, ranging from preserved varieties to artistic arrangements.
The second level introduces a new permanent location for UCHU BREWING, the first Tokyo outpost of the Yamanashi-based craft brewery. Known for its cosmic branding and experimental styles, the shop features rotating taps, canned goods, and exclusive brews like the berry-forward “Aurora Tiger,” available only through the end of April.
The top two retail floors are occupied by magmabooks, a two-level experiential bookstore operated by Maruzen Junkudo. Far from a traditional bookstore layout, the shop encourages exploration through thematic zones, curated shelves, and interactive touchpoints like “question cards” that prompt readers to discover titles in unexpected ways. The third floor includes a members-only lounge with semi-private reading booths and fully enclosed spaces designed for deep focus or remote work, complete with complimentary drinks, Wi-Fi, and power outlets.
Above and below these retail spaces lies the heart of Glass Rock’s civic ambition: a member-based innovation hub dedicated to addressing social challenges through cross-sector collaboration. Spanning the fourth floor and basement, the Glass Rock Social Action Community was built to bring together local government entities, corporations, nonprofits, universities, and individuals. The fourth-floor “Partners Lounge” blends professional design with a casual atmosphere, including an open bar area that fosters relaxed conversation and idea-sharing. Downstairs, the “Members Lounge” features co-working zones, soundproof studios for media production, and a gallery space to showcase projects from within the community.
Sociologist and Keio University professor Hiroaki Miyata is overseeing the conceptual direction of the space, structured around three pillars: connectivity, education, and expansion. His involvement ensures that the venue not only hosts activity but generates long-term value for both members and society at large. According to project representatives, the goal is to build a network of 100 organizations and 1,000 individual members in its first phase—a scale they believe is necessary to generate meaningful collective impact.
Glass Rock isn’t simply an architectural endpoint. It is a statement about the evolving identity of Tokyo’s international business corridors—one where creativity, culture, and civic-minded innovation are integrated into the urban fabric. With the launch of this facility, the Toranomon Hills district now comprises over 170 commercial outlets and more than 26,000 square meters of retail floor space, underscoring its role as a next-generation business and lifestyle destination.
