On September 4, 2025, Tokyo’s designer label MSML presented its 2026 Spring/Summer collection at Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO, held as part of the seasonal schedule at Roppongi Hills Arena. The runway slot at 19:00 placed MSML among a lineup of Japanese brands showcasing upcoming seasonal wear to industry professionals, press, and invited guests during the six-day fashion week held from September 1–6, 2025.
For its second runway appearance in the fashion week calendar, MSML centered its collection around a theme the brand described as “Tokyo Rollin’”, drawing inspiration from the layered urban energy of the city and the interplay of formality and street dynamism that defines Tokyo’s cultural landscape.
The collection incorporated motifs intended to reflect the contrasting elements of the metropolis: pieces suggested movement and contrast through juxtaposed materials and asymmetric constructions. One example noted in coverage was a shirt look combining two-tone ombré checks in a deliberately uneven assembly, a detail that underscored the collection’s embrace of non-traditional silhouettes and textural experimentation.
Throughout the runway, visible statements such as outerwear emblazoned with the “Tokyo Rollin’” text at the back and items featuring embroidered accents were integrated into the lineup, giving form to the brand’s conceptual framework. Models presented these designs with coordinated pink hair styling, a choice observers linked to an effort to articulate a contemporary mood reflective of Tokyo’s present cultural tempo.
Design details also included contrasting interior elements such as bandana-patterned linings, which at times peeked from beneath outer layers. This layering was interpreted as a metaphor for the dualities of the city — its polished surface and its more chaotic, subterranean edges — mirroring the collection’s aspiration to merge refined and raw influences.
MSML’s presentation formed part of a broader slate of shows at Rakuten Fashion Week TOKYO 2026 S/S, a season marking the event’s 20th anniversary with a program that included designers across domestic and international spectrums. The fashion week itself functions as a platform for Japanese designers to preview seasonal collections ahead of commercial release and engage with a global fashion community.
