Fujisawa, Kanagawa – Japan’s premier beach action sports festival, MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN 2026, returned to Kugenuma Beach and HUG-RIDE PARK from July 18–20, bringing together elite athletes in surfing, skateboarding, BMX, and breaking for one of the country’s biggest cross-cultural sporting events.
Hosted by the Shonan Open Executive Committee with Murasaki Sports as title sponsor, the festival featured international-level competitions, live performances, youth sports experiences, food vendors, and lifestyle exhibits, drawing large crowds to one of Japan’s most iconic surf destinations.

Skateboarding Park Champions Crowned
The highlight of the park competition was ONE SHOT KING, a unique invitation-only skateboard park contest produced by Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Sakura Yosozumi.
The 2026 champions were:
- Women’s Champion: Hikari Satake
- Men’s Champion: Soya Inomata
The competition challenged invited riders to deliver their best performance under the event’s distinctive one-shot format, creating a dramatic atmosphere unlike a traditional contest.
Rock Away Street Competition Delivers High-Level Performances
The Rock Away street skateboarding contest, produced by the renowned Chatty Chatty skate crew, brought together some of Japan’s most talented street skateboarders.

BMX Contest Highlights
The Make on the Spot powered by ARK LEAGUE BMX Street contest, produced by internationally acclaimed rider Rim Nakamura, featured elite Japanese riders competing in a high-intensity invitational format.
The winning team was:
- Taiki Okamoto
- Aou Matsumura
The contest emphasized creativity, technical precision, and split-second decision-making, reflecting the progression of Japan’s BMX scene on the international stage.
Surfing Takes Center Stage at Kugenuma Beach
Surfing remained a major attraction throughout the weekend with the TOP of TOP SURFING Supported by Corona Cero and LONGBOARD STYLE JAM competitions.
Organized by leading Japanese surfers including Kohei Kume, Kenji Miyauchi, and Nobuhiro Bito, the invitational events brought together many of Japan’s top surfers to compete on the historic waves of Kugenuma Beach.
