Tokyo strengthened its reputation as one of the world’s leading destinations for Neapolitan pizza on March 9, 2026, when the internationally recognized guide 50 Top Pizza announced its annual regional rankings during the “50 Top Pizza Asia-Pacific 2026” awards ceremony held at the Italian Cultural Institute Tokyo. The event brought together leading pizzaioli, restaurateurs and hospitality professionals from across the region as the organization revealed its list of the 50 best pizzerias in Asia-Pacific.

The top honor for 2026 went to RistoPizza by Napoli sta ca, led by Neapolitan pizzaiolo Giuseppe Errichiello. Located in Azabudai Hills, the restaurant secured the No.1 position after several years of strong placements in the regional ranking, marking a breakthrough moment for the Tokyo establishment. Known for its dedication to traditional Neapolitan techniques, the restaurant combines carefully sourced Italian ingredients with long-fermentation dough and wood-fired baking that closely follows the culinary traditions of Naples.

Second place went to Pizza Bar on 38th, the eight-seat counter located inside the Mandarin Oriental Tokyo and led by Executive Chef Daniele Cason. Often described as one of the smallest pizzerias in the world, the restaurant has been a perennial contender near the top of the Asia-Pacific ranking for several years. Its consistent presence among the leading establishments in the guide has helped establish it as one of the region’s most recognized destinations for Neapolitan pizza, making this year’s victory by RistoPizza by Napoli sta ca a notable shift in the standings.

Third place was shared by Fiata and gigi’s, followed by Spacca Napoli in fourth and Crosta in fifth. The remainder of the Top 10 included Massilia in sixth, SHOP225 in seventh, Pizzeria Braceria CESARI!! in eighth, a mano in ninth and Bottega in tenth.

Japan once again dominated the ranking with 11 restaurants included in the Top 50—more than any other country in the Asia-Pacific region—followed by Australia with nine and China with six. Tokyo alone accounted for seven entries, highlighting the city’s growing role as one of the most important international hubs for authentic Neapolitan pizza outside Italy.

The ceremony was streamed live through the guide’s official channels and featured presentations from Italian culinary figures and industry partners. Opening remarks were delivered by Mario Vattani, who welcomed guests and highlighted the cultural ties between Italy and Japan through cuisine. The ceremony concluded with remarks from Raffaele Borriello, chief of staff to Italy’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, who presented awards to the winning chefs.

Following the ceremony, guests gathered later that evening for a reception at XEX Nihonbashi, a restaurant and nightlife venue overlooking the Nihonbashi district. The after-party brought together chefs, restaurateurs and hospitality professionals from across the Asia-Pacific region in a relaxed environment that reflected the communal spirit of Italian food culture.

The reception took the form of a standing cocktail-style gathering where attendees sampled Italian-inspired dishes and drinks while discussing the continued growth of Neapolitan pizza across the region. Visiting chefs from cities including Sydney, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Seoul mingled with Tokyo-based operators, while representatives from project partners and ingredient producers hosted tasting tables highlighting Italian ingredients commonly used in pizza production.

The evening also served as a networking opportunity for chefs and restaurant operators shaping the future of pizza culture in the Asia-Pacific region. Conversations ranged from fermentation techniques and flour sourcing to the emergence of new regional interpretations of Neapolitan pizza.

According to the guide’s curators—Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro and Albert Sapere—the Asia-Pacific region continues to grow as one of the most dynamic markets for pizza culture. They noted that Japan remains a benchmark for both quality and quantity of high-level pizzerias, while Australia has shown significant progress in recent years and Seoul is rapidly emerging as a notable destination for pizza craftsmanship. The curators also highlighted the rise of what they describe as “Neapolitan Tokyo Style,” a style inspired by traditional Neapolitan pizza but refined through Japanese precision and technique.

The top 15 restaurants in the Asia-Pacific ranking automatically qualify for the global 100 Best Pizzerias in the World list, which will be announced in Naples on September 15.
