HARE presented its 2027 Spring/Summer collection in Tokyo on August 27, 2026, marking the Japanese fashion brand’s first runway show in four years. Held at Happo-en in Shirokanedai, the presentation combined contemporary mode fashion with Japanese clothing references, sheer fabrics and a more streamlined approach to silhouettes.
The show welcomed approximately 600 guests from Japan and overseas. It also marked an important step in HARE’s plans to strengthen its international presence, with the brand looking to expand beyond its existing Taiwanese market into other parts of East Asia.
HARE 2027 SS Collection: “霽レ”
Titled “霽レ” (HARE), the collection takes its name from the Japanese word for the clearing of rain or clouds, describing the moment when the sky begins to brighten.
The concept reflects a period of reassessment for the brand. According to HARE, years of responding to changing trends and consumer preferences had gradually blurred some of the defining elements of its original identity.
For Spring/Summer 2027, the brand returned to its foundational idea of creating everyday clothing with the impact and excitement of special-occasion wear.
The collection continues HARE’s approach to contemporary Japanese fashion, combining wearable clothing with the visual character of modern mode. Rather than simply returning to its earlier designs, the brand used the season to reconsider its identity in the context of how fashion has evolved.
The theme also has a historical connection to HARE’s runway presentations. The brand’s first runway show, held for Fall/Winter 2017, was titled “HARE.”
A Japanese Garden Sets the Scene
Happo-en, a Tokyo venue known for its Japanese garden with more than 400 years of history, provided the setting for the August 27 presentation.
The runway was constructed from wood and extended through the venue, while traditional Japanese gagaku music, including the sounds of the shō and hichiriki, accompanied the show. Lanterns and uchiwa fans placed around the seating area added a summer-festival atmosphere.
The setting reflected HARE’s interest in preserving Japanese cultural references while presenting them through contemporary fashion.
The choice of Happo-en also connected with the collection’s wider direction. Like the brand, the venue has continued to evolve while retaining its historical foundations.
From Black to Vivid Color
The collection opened with black, a color closely associated with HARE’s established aesthetic.
As the runway progressed, the palette moved toward white, pale tones and hazy patterns before introducing stronger shades of red, purple and blue.
The transition provided a clear visual structure to the show, moving from the brand’s familiar dark palette toward a more colorful direction.
Sheer jackets and lace camisole dresses were styled with vivid red trousers and bright pink heels, creating contrast between delicate materials and stronger color accents.
Patterns inspired by leaves, flowers and forests appeared in softened, mist-like forms. These abstract motifs introduced references to nature without moving away from the collection’s contemporary styling.
The changing palette also represented the relationship between HARE’s established identity and its future direction.
Sheer Fabrics Meet Heavier Textures
Material combinations were a central feature of the HARE 2027 Spring/Summer collection.
The brand explored the contrast between lightness and weight through garments combining different fabrics within a single piece.
Sheer blousons, shirts with transparent sleeves, pleated sheer tops and long skirts introduced movement and a lighter appearance. These were balanced by heavier textures and more substantial construction.
One look paired a striped sheer shirt dress with a distressed knit, while a woven leather jacket added another textural element to the collection.
The combinations gave the styling a layered character, bringing together transparency, texture and structure rather than relying on a single material or silhouette.
Japanese Clothing Reinterpreted
For Spring/Summer 2027, HARE also moved toward slimmer proportions, building on its previous emphasis on oversized silhouettes.
Tighter tops, relatively narrow trousers and more streamlined shapes appeared throughout the collection, placing greater emphasis on the relationship between the garments and the body.
Japanese clothing traditions provided another source of inspiration.
A collarless jacket incorporated elements associated with samue, while the construction of certain garments referenced the overlapping shapes of kimono and the proportions of hakama.
Rather than reproducing traditional Japanese clothing directly, HARE translated these details into contemporary jackets, trousers and coats.
The collection also included pleated dresses with floral patterns and matching sets featuring embroidered designs inspired by the ripples of water.
These pieces demonstrated how traditional references could be incorporated into modern wardrobes through silhouette, construction and surface detail.
All Runway Looks Planned for Retail
Unlike presentations featuring exclusive showpieces, HARE confirmed that no garments were created solely for the runway.
All looks shown during the August 27 presentation are intended for commercial release, with products scheduled to begin arriving in stores sequentially from January 2027.
This approach maintains the brand’s emphasis on real clothing, making the runway collection directly connected to its retail offering.
HARE Looks Toward East Asia
The return to the runway also forms part of HARE’s broader international ambitions.
The brand currently sells in Taiwan and plans to expand its presence across East Asia, with further overseas store openings under consideration.
HARE described the 2027 Spring/Summer presentation as both a collection launch and an opportunity to promote the brand internationally.
After four years away from the runway, the show at Happo-en provided a platform to introduce its latest designs while communicating its plans for future growth.
