TOKYO, JAPAN – May 24, 2026 – Odaiba’s Aomi Temporary Parking Area once again became the center of Japan’s custom automotive universe as the 38th MOONEYES Street Car Nationals brought together more than 1,000 vehicles and countless enthusiasts for one of the country’s largest and most influential outdoor car shows.

Organized by MOONEYES, the annual event celebrated the full spectrum of custom car culture, bringing together American classics, Japanese domestic builds, air-cooled Volkswagens, European customs, lowriders, hot rods, muscle cars, custom trucks, and vintage cruisers in a single waterfront venue. The scale of the event once again reinforced its status as a cornerstone of Japan’s automotive calendar.

Many attendees noted that the overall quality of vehicles on display appeared even higher than in previous years. Throughout the venue, visitors encountered an impressive variety of professionally built show cars featuring intricate paintwork, air suspension systems, custom fabrication, hand-crafted interiors, and award-caliber detailing.

Among the eye-catching American builds attracting significant attention was the highly customized Chevrolet Camaro presented by ROHAN Izawa Art Design. Equipped with ROHAN’s signature styling touches, custom GSR GS-1 wheels, and an Air Force suspension setup, the Camaro stood out among the event’s extensive lineup of American performance cars. The vehicle drew constant attention from photographers and enthusiasts throughout the day, reflecting the growing popularity of high-end Japanese customization applied to American muscle.

The event also showcased the strength of Japan’s air-cooled Volkswagen community. Numerous classic Beetles and Volkswagen Type 2 buses filled the show grounds, demonstrating the enduring appeal of vintage German engineering within Japan’s custom scene.

One particularly notable display came from FLAT4, which exhibited a meticulously restored and customized 1952 Volkswagen Type 1 Chop-Top. Featuring period-inspired CAL bumpers and FLAT4’s popular Porsche 911-style wheels, the vehicle paid tribute to the early California custom movement while preserving the character of one of Volkswagen’s most iconic platforms. The build generated considerable interest from longtime Volkswagen enthusiasts, many of whom appreciated its faithful recreation of early custom styling trends.

The FLAT4 booth itself became a destination for visitors seeking parts and accessories for air-cooled Volkswagens and other classic vehicles. Alongside performance and restoration components, the company offered original merchandise and showcased products aimed at preserving Japan’s thriving vintage VW culture.

Adding to the creative atmosphere, visitors also had the opportunity to view and purchase unique handcrafted items, including custom flower vases created by Tokyo-based artist Yoko Ogata. The artistic display complemented the event’s broader celebration of automotive lifestyle culture, where craftsmanship extends beyond the vehicles themselves.

One of the most talked-about product displays involved the return of BBT’s chrome Sprint Star wheels. The newly reintroduced wheel design attracted significant attention throughout the day, with numerous visitors reportedly placing advance reservations after viewing the wheels in person. Their appearance highlighted the continued demand for period-correct components and classic styling elements among collectors and restorers.

The swap meet area remained one of the busiest sections of the venue. More than 100 vendors offered vintage automotive parts, rare memorabilia, restoration supplies, apparel, signs, collectibles, tools, and accessories. Enthusiasts searched through countless displays in pursuit of hard-to-find components while collectors browsed automotive artifacts spanning multiple generations of car culture.

The presence of MOONEYES legendary pinstriper Wildman Ishii further reinforced the event’s connection to traditional hot rod culture. Live pinstriping demonstrations attracted crowds throughout the day, allowing visitors to witness one of the defining artistic traditions of custom automotive craftsmanship.

From immaculate Tri-Five Chevrolets and lowered Cadillacs to traditional hot rods, custom pickups, classic Volkswagens, and contemporary show builds, the event highlighted the extraordinary diversity of Japan’s custom automotive scene. Every section of the venue offered a different interpretation of automotive expression, reflecting decades of influence from American, European, and Japanese car cultures.

As the afternoon came to a close, thousands of visitors departed Odaiba having experienced one of the most impressive editions of the Street Car Nationals to date. With exceptional vehicle quality, strong vendor participation, vibrant swap meet activity, and a thriving community atmosphere, the 38th MOONEYES Street Car Nationals demonstrated why it remains one of Japan’s most important annual automotive events.
